Leaving a blog idle for three months is carefree (not to mention slightly embarrassing)… until the cleanup work begins to pile up to a frightening level. The first item I need to check off is the relaunching of the Gallery section that has been down for nearly half a year. With the ongoing sale of DVD releases at YesAsia (consider stocking up now!), I have managed to add a few new sets of 80’s classics to my inventory, and consequently have more screen captures to share.

Perhaps the most important task to complete though is “doing research”, meaning watching a new TVB series. Rosy Business and Emergency Unit have both been generating positive reviews and ratings, but I am leaning a lot more towards the former; the fierce combination of Sheren Tang and Wayne Lai demands attention, and the script appears to be equally strong regardless of whether it is a duplicate of a Mainland drama. In addition, the “Lucky Prince and Little Princess” blog romance in Emergency Unit already turns me off. If you have seen these series, I would love to read your thoughts on them. What are your impressions on the various characters, plots, and performances?

Next on the list is writing a fan fiction. I realize the idea is cliché, but my goal is not penning a love story between two TVB actors who are not actually dating. It is more a matter of preference than it is one of quality, as there must be many well-written, romantic fan fictions dedicated to specific pairings in cyberspace. I am an inadequate writer of romance that is not geeky, so having my contributions will not help that part of TVB fandom. My target genre is science fiction, and the story will most likely be a satire/parody and structured as a script. I want something that is fun for me to write and read, and hopefully, for others as well.

Everything is still being brainstormed, so I have nothing too unexpected to announce while I slowly reform the blog.

You know what? I’ve been itching to revisit that Star Trek parody for months – even more so now that the new movie is out. This is totally going to alienate everyone. :P

  2. omg…soo happy someone who i can agree with about the whole e.u stuff ..cause originally i felt bad that perhaps i wasn’t like sensitive enough..but i honestly wasnt too fond of the blogging between the prince and the princess.. for some reason i found it to be kind of cheesy…hence i wasnt too fond of that plot or the couple…
but then it seems as if everywhere i went people loved the idea..so i decided to shut my mouth until now where i have found someone who agrees with me! lol.. i also felt at this certain point where i didnt like the lucky princess (not the actress just the character)..where it seemed like she didnt really know the little prince that well so the way she dealt with the situation mad eme further dislike the couple
E.u in general..it was interesting..but at the same time i was a bit disappointed since everyone made a big hype about laughing gor…but i didn’t see the reason for the hype. i guess it’s because before watching the series i knew what was going to happen (i blame myself for reading spoilers)..but in general the series was okay.

Rosy Business on the other hand..i really liked!! i think it was fantastic and intriguing! I guess I love the fact that it teaches you a bit of chinese history..and the characters were interesting in their individual way. i love the acting and the plots. I just realized Ron was in both! ahhaa..seems like the hit series this year includes him!! lol i starting to like him ~~

alright ill stop my rant here….LOL

Hey, now, ranting may be therapeutic. :D

Don’t worry, it’s definitely not just you. Maybe we’re both “insensitive”, but I’d rather come off as a jerk than pretend to like something I actually think is cheesy. :P To each his/her own.

I haven’t seen the entire series, but I’m a bit surprised about the hype surrounding Michael Tse’s character. I don’t want to take anything away from his achievements – he works hard – but at the same time the role of “Laughing Gor” was arguably not too challenging with his previous experience of playing gangsters in the Young and Dangerous series and spinoffs. It could be that some viewers may not have seen all those movies. Anyway, good for him and the fans.

Regarding Rosy Business, I’ve seen a few episodes and the series already looks promising. Looking forward to the rest. :)

thinking about both series, one after another. i kinda like Rosy Business and I have a feeling this series will be suited better for you than EU but that’s just me. :D EU kind of drifted off towards the end, I wasn’t “okay” with the Ron + Elanne pairing. I think you should watch Rosy first…but don’t watch all in one go..because that gets very tiring, well it did that to me! :wth: Haha, Lavender_Bluez, I noticed that ages ago, but Ron doesn’t play a big big role in RB. He’s quite funny but his pairing with Suki isn’t such a “big thing” everyone thinks it is, well some people. He’s more like supporting there but you have watched The Gem of Life, haven’t you? Or am I mixing you up with someone else? :shy: It’s got Elliot in Rosy, he can be quite funny, copying the (english) doctor’s accent. ^^

    Omgosh. So many typos.

*I was “okay” with the Ron + Elanne pairing.
I was okay with the pairing, I wasn’t a fan though.

And oh yeah, I wonder what themesong you would like better? :P

    *There’s Elliot in Rosy..
Sorry, he’s not an “it”. This is what happens when I don’t read what i write.

    • Aeris says:

Thanks, sugar. I think you’re right. When I have more time, perhaps I’ll finish Emergency Unit. :)

Regarding the two theme songs, I prefer the Rosy Business one. However, I must admit that I’m not a fan of the theme songs TVB produces now, which are mostly generic karaoke tracks with less meaningful lyrics. I absolutely love the timeless classics by Joseph Koo and James Wong! <3 And having amazing singers like Jenny Tseng always, always helps. :)

      • Lavendar_Bluez says:

omg yes!! i miss them too!! They are fantastic composers….and Jenny is a great singer!! My aunt has alot of her albums! Oh and yes…alot of today’s songs arent as great as they use to…and not as “classic”

      • Aeris says:

Definitely agree. :) What’s your favorite theme song by Jenny Tseng? I think the God of Sabre one is simply beautiful, and James Wong’s lyrics are touching.
