Filed under: Artwork // Digital Painting

This painting required approximately 60 hours of work to complete, with the original sized at 2500px on the largest side. The late Barbara Yung Mei Ling (翁美玲) was best known for her brilliant portrayal of Huang Rong in the unparalleled 1982 adaptation of Jin Yong’s The Legend of the Condor Heroes.

The images below may not be re-posted elsewhere. Please respect my work. Thank you.

    It’s a beautiful work of art :D
Everything is so detailed and smooth, just like a real painting.
    Great job!

    • Aeris says:

Thank you for the kind words, Blossom. :)

      • Blossom says:

No problem Aeris! You deserve the compliment.
How long have you been using the Wacom tablet? I just started using it, and everything I draw is so shaky. LOL.

      • Aeris says:

I’ve been using this particular model for a few years. The tablet does take some time to get used to. Have you seen the Cintiq 21UX? It’s absolutely beautiful. I’m slowing saving money to buy it. :P

      • Blossom says:

Oh, no wonder you’re so good! I’m hopeless at it :?
Hmm I have heard of it before. It’s the one with the adjustable stand right :)?

      • Aeris says:

You’re not hopeless. Remember that the tablet is just a tool to enhance and speed up the work normally done on paper and canvas. (Plus, more trees are spared!) The user still needs to have at least some drawing/painting skills in order to make good use of the tablet – it won’t magically transform him/her into an artist. Don’t worry about the time it takes to adapt. ;)

And yeah, that is the model with the adjustable stand. <3 There is another version that’s placed on the lap. Still saving! By the way, did I mention that I accept donations? Haha.

The painting of Barbara looks spectacular! It resembles Barbara all the way and I still have that photo of Barb in one of my folders. It’s from The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung, right? I miss the 80s so much!

Everything in the painting looks real, especially that pearl necklace. Lol, I’ll never be able to spend 60 hours on a painting. :)

    • Aeris says:

Thank you, Liling. I’m sure you’d be able to spend 60 hours doing something you love. :)

I was afraid the portrait didn’t resemble Barbara since I had to work from scratch with only one reference photo. Was this her look from The New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung? I haven’t seen that series in many years. :P But she looks better with these new clothing patterns and pearls, right? No plastic accessories and fake diamonds. :D

  3. Camie says:

Wow! that looks great! my favorite Barbara role and series as well as my favorite Barbara costume. Keep up the good work. I really miss the 80s series and Barbara. May she rest in peace. Miss you much Barbara!

  4. Tris says:

Amazing work Aeris :) Brings back all my memories of Barbara. I love The Legend Of The Condor Heroes – it was the first time I saw Barbara’s acting. This portrait does kinda resemble one of her costumes in Chor Lau Heung right down to the feathers in her hair! :D

  5. Wonderful painting! I’m so glad people still remember Barbara. She was so talented and cute. I love her costumes from the Chor Lau Heung series.

I just recently found your site and it is amazing! You’re literally the first person I’ve met that remembers Barbara and loves her as much as I do. :)

Also, I totally agreed with all your comments on the TVB 42nd anniversary awards night!
